If you are debating getting a second dog, this adorable Instagram video from @daisythegoldiee will convince you that the “second dog effect” is real. At the start of the video, Daisy the Golden Retriever looks like she is going through an existential crisis, giving the kind of heavy sigh only a dramatic dog like her can pull off. But the moment Maple enters the scene, Daisy becomes the happiest dog in the world.

Owner documents how dog’s life changes after new furry sibling’s arrival

The video’s on-screen text reads, “The Second Dog Effect,” and it eventually makes its point. Daisy appears alone in the first few clips, flopped on a dog bed and stretched out on the couch with that classic “nothing ever happens to me” face — but then, Maple arrives. Suddenly, everything changes.

With a second dog in Daisy’s orbit, the two pop up together around the house — side by side on a sofa, eating together, and curling up close in bed as if they have always known each other. Daisy’s expression changes, too. She looks more alert and joyful, as if she has finally found someone who speaks her language.

The owner captioned the sentiment, writing, “Because life is better together.” And judging by the reaction in the comments, Daisy and Maple have convinced plenty of people they are better with each other, with one viewer commenting, “They spice things up that’s for sure!” Another called them “The most precious together ,” while a third user added, “Two is better than one.” One person sounded ready to add a new dog after watching as they wrote, “OK IM CONVINCED! how do I convince my fiance ?”

Having two dogs means they share their space. Still, the overall vibe of the video says that the “second dog effect” is worth putting up a fight for, especially if the dog siblings are anything like Daisy and Maple.
