Long before Timber ever set paw inside his new home, he had already picked out his favorite person. Shared by @reneecarter8681, this absolutely heartwarming video looks back at the day a little boy first met the rescue dog at the shelter. It was here that a regular reading session through a kennel door turned into the beginning of a years-long friendship. It is honestly the most adorable thing you’ll see all day.

The video opens with young Will sitting outside Timber’s kennel, back when the shelter dog was still called Nogales. Book in hand, he reads through the glass while Timber watches with surprising focus.
His eyes follow Will, and at times he even seems to glance down toward the pages before looking back at his tiny visitor. Then comes an especially sweet moment when Timber leans toward the glass, almost as if he’s trying to sneak in a kiss.
The video soon shifts from that first meeting to everything that came after. There are clips of Will returning to the shelter with his family, followed by the happy day Timber officially joins them at home.
In the caption, the family shared, “We adopted ‘Nogales’ on January 9, 2019. After a week of debating names we changed his name to Timber. He’s been stealing our hearts ever since that first day Will read to him.”
From there, the photos mark the ordinary and the extraordinary days. Timber settles into life with his new toys, happily spends time with the family’s cats, enjoys pool days, poses beside Will on his first day of second grade, and proudly joins in for family photos.
As the years pass, the little boy grows taller, but one thing never changes. Timber always seems happiest when he’s close to his favorite people. The final photo brings everything full circle. Timber is fast asleep across Will’s lap, while the little boy who once read to him through a kennel door is now a teenager.
