Dinner may be finished, but Hudson clearly isn’t ready to close the case just yet. He gets himself onto the back of the couch, apparently hoping that a little extra height will reveal something useful happening in the kitchen.
The Golden Retriever puppy picked up this habit when he was little. So Mom knows exactly what he is doing when she spots him balancing along the narrow top of the couch. In the video shared by @novathegoldengal, Hudson keeps his attention fixed on the kitchen despite the increasingly wobbly position.

Mom starts filming just as Hudson climbs onto the backrest, where he immediately gets busy sniffing around. “What are you doing, Hud?” she asks. Hudson does not explain. He carefully shifts himself along the thin strip at the top of the couch, trying to find a spot with a better view. “I thought you were going to grow out of this,” Mom tells him, revealing that this is a habit he picked up when he was younger.
Another angle shows just how determined he is. Hudson is balancing along the narrow frame, looking around before turning his attention toward the kitchen. From up there, he gets a clear look toward the counters, which is apparently exactly what he wanted. “Buddy,” Mom says, watching him wobble. “That’s how you can peek into the kitchen to see what’s going on.” Hudson keeps going anyway.
The Golden Retriever puppy even trembles a little while balancing, but dinner surveillance apparently requires commitment. The video has picked up more than 6,000 views, and viewers are clearly entertained by his dedication.
One joked, “To get big rewards, gotta take big risks,” while another said he was “like a cat.” Someone else summed up Hudson’s motivation more directly: “Want to be closer to the food, Mom, duh!”
There is no evidence that a second dinner actually appeared, but Hudson seems perfectly happy to keep checking. At least from his perspective, giving up before the kitchen has been thoroughly inspected would be premature.
