The short clip shows her sitting quietly in her kennel, her head lowered, appearing withdrawn as she adjusts to her unfamiliar surroundings. The message displayed in the video offers a brief but heartbreaking explanation for how she ended up there. It reads, “Surrender reason: Dog is too old.”
The simple sentence quickly became the focus of the post. It also prompted an emotional caption that shared more about Scratch Off’s past. According to the caption, Scratch Off spent “nearly her entire life” with the same family. Now, at 14 years old, she is adjusting to life in a shelter rather than a loving home. The author reflects on how confusing that change must be for a senior dog who had spent years believing she was exactly where she belonged.
The caption also challenges the idea that old age should ever become a reason to give up a pet. Recently, Scratch Off had been examined by the shelter veterinarian and was found to have an enlarged heart. Not only that, she was likely in heart failure and also had bronchitis. Because of her condition, the creator said the pup needed to be adopted or rescued before July 9.
