Felicity, affectionately known as City, is a two-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix who has captured the hearts of the people caring for her. A video shared by @adoptapet describes her as a dog who has been “waiting far too long to be chosen” despite being known by volunteers as one of “the sweetest” pups around.
The appeal brings attention to the frustrating reality for many shelter pets. Even dogs with friendly personalities can spend months waiting for adoption, and City is no exception. According to the post, volunteers regularly choose her for outings and enjoy spending time with her. Still, she continues to wait in boarding for a family to take her home.
Shelter dog who endured several hardships waits for a loving home
City’s path to this point has not been easy. The rescue explained that she lost her home due to circumstances that were “beyond her control,” leaving her without the stability every dog deserves. Her situation became even more serious when she ended up on a local shelter’s euthanasia list.
Fortunately, Felicity got another chance. She was taken in by Twenty Paws Rescue in Brooklyn, where she is now safe and receiving care while her search for a permanent home continues.
Despite everything she has experienced, City has maintained a positive and affectionate personality. The rescue shares that she loves people above all else. “Loving her people is her full-time job, and she takes it very seriously,” the caption reads.
Weighing around 63 pounds, she may be a large dog on paper, but her caretakers say she sees herself as a lap dog. They jokingly describe her as “63 pounds of pure love wrapped up in a 20-pound lap dog mindset.”
Beyond her affectionate nature, City is also playful and energetic. She enjoys staying active and would likely thrive with a family that can include her in outdoor activities and everyday adventures.
Although she is not reactive toward other dogs, the rescue notes that she “would do best as the only pet” in the home, where she can enjoy her own space and receive plenty of one-on-one attention.
For those who know her, the most difficult part is seeing such a loving dog continue to wait while others find their forever homes. After surviving housing changes, shelter life, and the threat of euthanasia, City has already overcome more than most. Now, her supporters hope that sharing her story will help her finally find the family she has been waiting for.
