Stepping into a new home after years of confinement is already scary enough on its own. But luckily, one special laboratory survivor didn’t have to tackle her anxiety completely solo. This heartwarming video from the Instagram account @cozyveganfinds shows an eleven-year-old rescue dog, Bambi, stepping up to assist her foster sibling, Rare.
The older dog patiently guides the Ridglan Farms rescue through a completely unfamiliar environment. It is the most beautiful, slow-paced victory that will absolutely brighten up an afternoon.
Senior rescue dog teaches foster puppy how to use the dog door
The footage starts outside on the patio where both pups stand right next to the doggy door flap. Rare, the Beagle, looks totally clueless about what to do next. But Bambi immediately crawls through the plastic opening to demonstrate exactly how the mechanism works. She turns right back around to see if Rare followed her. But the poor puppy remains completely frozen in place, nervously looking back at her foster mom filming the lesson.
The patient senior doesn’t give up and repeats the entire demonstration over and over again. Rare approaches the plastic flap cautiously. And Bambi waits on the opposite side of the glass, wagging her tail like the cutest cheerleader. That’s when the nervous puppy sticks her head halfway through the partition. But she panics and pulls right back out. Her foster mom noted in the on-screen caption that she always freezes up whenever she attempts it solo.
But on the next big try, Rare inches closer to the exit, slides her head through, and finally clears the entire frame. Her mom audibly gasps with excitement before rushing inside to celebrate the huge breakthrough.
