One sweet Golden Retriever is winning hearts online after proudly grabbing his favorite toy the second he realized the baby in the house had woken up, only to stop himself from getting too close. The wholesome moment, shared by Instagram account @baker.the.goodboy, showed the dog sitting alertly beside a bed after hearing movement from the newborn nearby.

The on-screen text on the reel summed up the scene perfectly: “POV: your dog hears the newborn wake up and clocks in for playtime.” Almost immediately, the fluffy white retriever sprang into action. The video showed Baker trotting over to a basket of toys before carefully picking out a stuffed squirrel. With the plush toy hanging from his mouth, he made his way through the house toward the baby’s room like he had an important job to do.

However, instead of barging in or getting overly excited, Baker slowed himself down once he reached the sleeping area. The clip captured him quietly standing near the bassinet while keeping a respectful distance from the baby. At one point, he even climbed carefully onto the nearby bed, still holding the toy. His owner joked in the caption, “How do I tell him that he may not be able to play with his squirrel for another year or two?”

The video came from Instagram creator account @baker.the.goodboy, which has more than 10.5K followers. The page describes Baker as having “big heart, sleepy eyes, family vibes” and notes that the account has reached over 97K followers across platforms.

Golden retrievers are widely known for their calm temperament, affectionate personality, and gentle behavior around children. Families often choose the breed because they usually tend to be patient and emotionally intuitive. Their playful energy allows them to keep up with children during games and activities, while their loyal and easygoing nature makes them dependable companions inside the home.
